Bank account and banking options may be available if you are a refugee
Refugees in the UK often with babies and young children, are in many cases just waiting to return to their countries as soon as they can, or cannot return because it is still unsafe. They have no choice but to remain here temporarily, and are not allowed to work to support themselves.
One of the main objectives of Money Advice Direct Debt Advice Service is to provide support and help to refugees and asylum seekers and to make banking and bank account information and advice available to them directly. We are involved in a key resettlement programmes across the UK and provide bank account and banking information for refugees to help them with integration and gaining employment.
By depriving asylum seekers of basic banking facilities and bank accounts they can not access money and be forced into hunger and hardship. Their survival relies on a payment system that not only hugely restricts where, when, and what they can shop for, but often does not work at all. We must not allow refugees bank accounts and banking facilities and not allow the most vulnerable people in our society to suffer.
