The 24 hour debt advice service provides continued support for the provision of debt advice nationally across the UK and so covering Antrim, Belfast, Ballymena, Coleraine, Enniskillen, Londonderry, Lurgan/Portadown, Omagh and Newry.
It’s not difficult to get credit and all too often, people are persuaded to buy things they can’t really afford. But more people who get into debt, do so because of an unexpected drop in income due to illness, redundancy or marital breakdown. The sooner you face the problem, the easier it will be to solve it.
The average indebtedness of the client base in Belfast and Northern Ireland was found to be £15,000. The provision of the 24 hours debt advice service will enable those sectors of society who cannot access advice centres due to restrictive opening hours and employments hours.
IVA - An Individual Voluntary Arrangement
IVA is a formal agreement between the a person who want to clear debt and the creditors. The IVA is governed under the Insolvency Act (1986). An IVA allow the person wanting to clear debt to pay off a percentage of what is owed over a period of time, usually 5 years. The debt advice team will only recommend an IVA as a solution to your debt problems if it is considered as best advice to help you clear debts. Bankruptcy
Bankruptcy is a court order that you can apply for if you're in debt. It may be the best way for you to free yourself from excessive debts that you simply cannot pay by sharing out any assets you have among your creditors.
Someone you owe money to could also make you bankrupt, even if you don't apply for it through your own choice.

Debt Management can seem like an easy way out of temporary financial problems, giving you a lifeline to cover your bills. The debt advice service has assisted nearly 200,000 clients, dealing with £30million of debt. According to the debt advice team there are on average 250 new clients seeking debt advice every month to seeking help to find their way out of a debt situation.
