A Debt management plan is a scheme in which you can manage your debts without borrowing more money. If you enter into a debt management plan you repay your debts at a rate you can afford and your creditors are dealt with on your behalf. All negotiating to reduce or freeze interest and charges is done for you. The advantage of debt management is that your debts are reduced to a single affordable monthly payment and your debts are cleared without borrowing more. To apply for an Debt Management Plan please click HERE
Please note that for consumers considering a Debt Management Plan (DMP), although the consumer may become debt free at the end of the DMP period, if a default notice has been issued the effect is likely to remain on the consumer's credit profile for a lengthy time.
Please note that for consumers considering a Debt Management Plan (DMP), if interest and charges continue to apply then there will be an increase in the total amount of debt to be repaid and that due to lower monthly payments it is very likely that the debt will have to be repaid over a longer period of time.
An IVA is a formal and legally binding agreement between you and your creditors. An IVA is really for people that have over £17,000 in personal debts to at least 3 different lenders. Once the IVA is set up the companies you owe money to legally have to stop all further interest and charges on your debts. All letters and phone calls from your creditors in relation to your debts should then cease. An IVA usually last for 5 years. After this period all debts included in the IVA proposal are cleared. To apply for an IVA please click HERE
Please note that for consumers considering an Individual Voluntary Arrangement (IVA), an IVA it needs to be accepted by 75% of the creditors (by value) for the interest and charges to be frozen. Please therefore note that a guaranteed outcome favourable to the consumer in negotiations with creditors is not always possible.
If you are in serious debt, bankruptcy should be viewed as your last resort. It’s important to understand that when you are made bankrupt, although all your debts will be cleared, your house and all your assets, such as car, valuable furniture, life insurance plans, and unapproved pension schemes could all be sold off to pay your creditors. You will normally be discharged from being bankrupt after 12 months.
"I had debts of £30,000 and was paying £600 per month. It was a struggle, considering I was earning £1400 per month. I tried consolidation loans and transferring my credit card balances to lower interest rate cards, but I was still seriously overcommitted financially. Money Advice Direct offered me an IVA. It sounded too good to be true. I an now paying £250 per month for a five year term."

Money Advice Direct advised me to go bankrupt. I was scared at first. They helped me through the whole procedure. I am now debt free and can start afresh in 12 month. I am also looking forward to returning to work as a nurse."

Money Advice Direct were able to set up a debt management plan for me. They stopped all the interest and charges and I will now be debt free (subject to terms and conditions) in 7 years as opposed to 12."
