There are no exemptions from paying the fee.
Once a Debt Relief Order has been submitted to the Insolvency Service, by the Approved Intermediary the applicant only has 10 days to ensure that his/her fee is received by the Insolvency Service.
If it is not received within this time, the Debt Relief Order will not be approved. The applicant will then have to submit a new application.
Because of the short timescale in which to pay the fee following submission, most Competent Authorities and Approved Intermediaries will request that the client pays the fee once the application has been processed.
Once the Debt Relief Order has been input onto the Insolvency Service’s system, a Barcode letter is generated with a unique reference number to identify the applicant. This letter is sent to the client and they must take this to a “PayZone” outlet and quote the Debt Relief Order reference when paying the £90 fee. This ensures that the fee is credited to the client’s application.
Once the fee has been paid, it is the client’s responsibility to inform the Intermediary that payment has been made. The Intermediary will then submit the application to the Insolvency Service DEBT RELIEF ORDER Unit for their approval.
Currently the decision on whether the Debt Relief Order is approved or not is made with a few working days. The Intermediary is notified by the Insolvency Service, and a letter is then sent to the client.
