How far back can you go?
Did the PPI policy begin within the last 6 years. If the PPI policy started within the last 6 years then it is possible to make a claim and claim back the PPI.
Write to the lender and ask for all the paperwork relating to the PPI claim.
If you have taken out PPI within the last 6 years then contact the lender of insurance policy and ask for copies of paperwork they have on file.
What if your policy is older than 6 years – Can you still claim back the PPI?
It is still worth considering a reclaim if the PPI policy started over 6 years ago. BUT you must have all the paperwork.
To claim back PPI, the more paperwork you have the better
The general rule in making a PPI claim is getting all the paperwork together. The responsibility to get all the paperwork is on the borrowers back so get as much info, forms, letters and contacts as possible.
What happens if the PPI policy ended more than 6 years ago and you have no paperwork?
Please note that if the PPI policy ended more than 6 years ago AND you have no paperwork then it will be very difficult to claim PPI back. This is because the lenders or PPI insurance providers only have to keep back PPI paperwork for 6 years.
New Rules to get old PPI complaints re-opened.
New rules could see thousands of old complaints about PPI reopened. The Financial Services Authority (FSA) has given more time for around people to complain about being mis-sold payment protection insurance (PPI).
The FSA has now extended the deadline by a further 5 months on top of the 6 months deadline that was set if the FOS turned down the complaint. The extra time will be of benefit to people whose complaints were first rejected between 28th November 2009 and 28th April 2010.
The updated deadline extension to 27th October 2010 has been put in place so that potential customers making a claim were not disadvantaged by the FOS’s own plans to improve the way firms are obliged to deal with new PPI complaints.
The FSA want to ensure customers whose complaints had been rejected by PPI firms since the end of November 2009, will be encouraged to contact the Financial Ombudsman Service should they wish to pursue their complaint further.
Make a PPI claim TODAY
In the UK the rules state that if you have a PPI policy in place or were sold a PPI policy at any time within the past six years then you have grounds for a claim.
The other angle is if the actual PPI policy has come to an end there may be grounds to claim PPI for 6 years since the policy ended.
Please note that to claim compensation on a mis-sold PPI policy it helps to have as much original paperwork as possible.
REMEMBER: If you have been missold a PPI policy then you can and should make a claim
