Please note that PPI cover can cost thousands of pounds and has often been mis-sold, including to customers who would never be able to claim, such as the retired and unemployed. If you have been misold a PPI policy then you may need to go through a PPI claims court process to get the money back
In the UK PPI cases in dispute should be taken to the Financial Ombudsman and not through the courts, as this avoids the lengthy and expensive PPI court process.
The PPI claims court process is expensive, detailed and can take a long time, especially if the PPI claims court process leads to an appeal in a higher court.
As a definitive alternative to the court system missold PPI consumer can look to the Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS). The FOS is free but it also has its own internal appeal process which is also free to consumers who have been missold a PPI policy.
If the consumer that has been missold a PPI is not happy with the decision the FOS has made then the option of a PPI claims court action is still possible.
On average PPI claims are dealt with within about 3 months. However, please note that if the PPI claim ends up in the court system them the PPI claims court process can take anywhere between 6 and 9 months to 1 year.
If the PPI goes through the PPI claims court process the claimants can either represent themselves or appointed a claims handling company or lawyer to act on their behalf.
