The 'Bank Fees Reclaim Team (BFRT)' was launched 18 months ago and has already helped 100s of customers with their debt problems that have been incurred as banks charge up to £50 to send a letter and unfairly charge £100s to their customers for going over their overdraft limits or failing to meet direct debit commitments.
The High Court test case into unfair bank charges is entering its third week. The eight banking institutions have argued that the ‘unauthorised’ overdrafts, to which the charges apply, are essential to personal banking.
The banking institutions involved are Abbey, Barclays, Clydesdale, HBOS, HSBC, Lloyds TSB, Nationwide Building Society and Royal Bank of Scotland. All banks declare that penalising customers for overdrawn accounts is completely within their right. This case began in mid-January 2008 and is expected to continue until April 2008.
